Duties and Responsibilities

The Data Management Consultant will deliver the following services to the BCtA Secretariat under the supervision of BCtA's Impact Team Lead, Programme Analyst and in consultation with the Programme Manager of the Business Call to Action. Responsibilities of the Data Management Consultant will include the following:

 

Manage impact data of BCtA member companies

BCtA is currently implementing a new service offering (BCtA Impact Measurement Services: BIMS) that aims to measure operational performance and social impact of inclusive businesses through the use of a mobile-enabled survey tool. By 2016, the BIMS program will support up to 23 BCtA member companies globally, in multiple sectors (including health, education, low-income housing, etc.) by designing customized surveys and collecting and analyzing real-time data using mobile phones.

The Data Management Consultant will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Support data collection activities and analyses of impact data (operational and social impact data).

These will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinating communications with BCtA members and other stakeholders for the BIMS program;

  • Cleaning collected data;

  • Conducting preliminary analysis of data;

  • Develop, manage, and continuously update an excel-based database of impact data that is easy to use and customizable.

Support research activities on issues related to social impact

The topics will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Sector-specific indicators that are commonly used by practitioners in the field of inclusive business (e.g. health, education, low-income housing, etc.);

  • Survey instruments used to collect social impact data;

  • Best practices on sharing and disseminating social impact data;

  • Sustainable Development Goals.

Coordinate activities to collect other BCtA member related data:

  • Manage and continuously update an excel-based membership database of BCtA that contains data on member commitments, results, sectors, geographies, etc.;

  • Coordinate communications with BCtA members to collect end-of-year results reporting;

  • Support the analysis of members results reporting;

  • Support the management of BCtA's Salesforce database and member contact information.

Provide general support to BCtA Secretariat across different activities:

  • Conduct research and draft briefing notes, memos, case studies, articles, etc. across all activities of BCtA as and when required by the Programme;

  • Create presentation materials as required by BCtA Secretariat;

  • Provide administrative support as required by BCtA Secretariat.

Please note, that the Data Management Consultant shall support the BCtA Secretariat in other tasks that may arise during the assignment period. The Consultant shall be ready to undertake international travel on behalf of the Secretariat if required.

Deliverables:

  • Logistical coordination and communications with relevant stakeholders, including BCtA members, for BCtA Impact Measurement Services;

  • Other necessary communications with BCtA members and other relevant stakeholders to collect other BCtA member related data;

  • Excel-based database of impact data collected through the BIMS program that is easy to use and customizable;

  • Research and analysis of BCtA member companies, relevant indicators, survey instruments, etc.;

  • Updated end-of-year results reporting;

  • Monthly update of Salesforce database;

  • Updated excel-based BCtA membership database;

  • Updated BCtA member contact list;

  • Any other briefing notes, memos, presentation materials as required;

  • Any other coordination support as required.

The Consultant shall provide weekly updates on progress made in terms of the above deliverables.

Payments for work completed shall be made on a monthly basis based on deliverables submitted and deemed satisfactory by the Secretariat.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

 

  • A Master's degree in Business, Public Policy, International Affairs or related fields.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in private/public/non-profit sectors;

  • Experience with developing Excel-based databases, managing large data and creating PowerPoint presentations;

  • Experience with coordinating complex projects involving multiple stakeholders;

  • Experience with private sector initiatives in developing countries considered an asset;

  • Familiarity with UN and/or multilateral/bilateral agencies considered an asset;

  • Experience of living, working, or conducting research in developing countries strongly preferred.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required (written and verbal);

  • Working knowledge of other UN official language(s) is desirable.

Travel:

  • The Consultant shall be ready to undertake international travel on behalf of the Secretariat during the assignment period if required and the travel expenses will be covered following UNDP rules and procedures.
