Istanbul Development Dialogues 2018: Breakthrough to 2030
It’s no mystery that achieving Agenda 2030 requires mobilizing unprecedented amounts of knowledge, areas of specialty, technology and funding. This can only be achieved if all hands are on deck. A successful sustainable development agenda requires partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society. And at this stage, it also requires outlining practical solutions for accelerating progress on the goals.
Given the radical changes required to achieve that agenda within 12 years, is the world moving forward fast enough? What government infrastructure is necessary to address economic, social, and environmental challenges at once? How do we go from “billions” to “trillions” in financing the transition to sustainable development? Are we making any progress on measuring the goals? With technology experiencing a breakneck transformation, what shortcuts can countries take to boost their development results? How can governments navigate the present geopolitical fissures? How can they manage risk in the current environment?
Mission of IDD 2018
This year’s IDD will be about the reality of global development in 2018. Three years after the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were unveiled to the world with the most ambitious and comprehensive range of targets – from eliminating poverty to curbing carbon emissions – many countries and organizations are getting up to speed to carry out the SDGs and monitor their progress.
IDD will offer 2 days of onstage discussions, providing insights from the very people who are leading the battle for change. By the same token, the latest research, analysis, and programming developments concerning these topics will be presented and discussed.
It will bring together partners to talk about what works and what doesn’t, and to create successful paths to 2030.
What is IDD?
Since their 2015 inception as the Dialogues on Inequality, UNDP’s Istanbul Development Dialogues have evolved into a global development forum where policy-makers, business leaders, and diverse experts – from journalists to designers – discuss the issues of our time.
