The Base of the Pyramid (BoP) sector shows great potential to scale and transform lives. The past decade has seen substantial growth in the number of BoP ventures, the provision of quality services to the poor and vulnerable, and investor interest in the sector. But there is also a growing recognition that roadblocks exist, which can limit venture sustainability, scalability, and success.
The 'BoP Summit 2013: Creating an Action Agenda for the Next Decade' is specifically designed to identify and tackle these challenges. In gathering leading actors and emphasizing a strong action-oriented framing, the event will focus on:
Taking stock of what we know thus far about the BoP domain
Identifying critical success factors worthy of amplifying and on-going challenges that must be overcome
Determining an action agenda for the next decade that builds upon existing successes and addresses current limitations
The summit is designed to generate to two key outcomes for the attendees. One is the opportunity to participate in rich and robust conversations about the successes, challenges, and lessons learned over the past decade. This kind of discussion can have immediate payback for venture leaders, development sector experts, and academic scholars seeking to address today's most pressing issues.
The second key outcome will be participating in jointly creating a roadmap for the development of the BoP domain for the next decade.
Attendance will be limited to approximately 200 persons so as to ensure an in-depth and result-oriented dialogue. Along with plenaries, attendees will participate in breakout sessions to identify lessons worth sharing, discuss opportunities worth exploring, and develop strategies worth further investment.
