In 2004, the World Bank estimated that Indoor Air Pollution, caused by dirt fuels such as kerosene, firewood, and coal have caused the death of 551,430 Africans, most of which were below the age of 42. In Nigeria, Oando Marketing Place, the country's leading integrated energy company, is working to combat pollution by promoting access to clean cooking liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) stoves.

LPG stoves are a healthy, safe and clean alternative to traditional cook stoves that rely on conventional cooking fuels including charcoal, firewood and kerosene. As part of its commitment to the Business Call to Action, Oando plans to make its LPG stove available to low-income communities throughout Nigeria through a network of more than 38,000 micro entrepreneurs. The company hopes to help 5 million families make the switch to LPG stoves over the next five years.
